Elementary (Grades 1-6)

Cornerstone Canadian School is a learning community that challenges students to achieve standards beyond their grade levels. Our enriched, hands-on, academic program nurtures scholars to develop into lifelong learners, critical thinkers and principle based leaders. With an attitude of achieving excellence in all areas, we focus on developing the foundation for strong literacy, numeracy, social skills, teamwork as these are required for all career paths.

We continually develop our curriculum to focus on reading, writing and comprehension at a high standard. Mathematics, Science, History and social studies, use an inquiry based delivery method. All elementary students learn French and a Nigerian language. Within their lessons, technology is integrated and students develop their questioning abilities, improve their research strategies and learn how to quickly access relevant information. They have access to print, multimedia materials and digital resources. Art is taught by a specialist and students are empowered in productions to showcase their talents and skills. Leadership opportunities are available at all grades and with age, their responsibilities increase. Field trips and excursions relating to the areas of study encourage learning beyond the classrooms. Daily physical and extra-curricular activities are part of a well-rounded program and our students engage in a variety of age appropriate activities. These promote high level of participation, skill development, fitness and healthy lifestyle. Music is taught by a specialist and is a vital part of our curriculum. Students have the opportunity to belong to the school band or the school choir.

We prepare students to be ready for the future by enriching our education beyond the standard. With our interactive based instruction; students learn to analyze situations, anticipate challenges, debate questions and solve problems. As they progress to upper grades, we integrate life skills for team work, research, adaptability and creativity. Academically, this allows students to explore more sophisticated Maths, Literacy and Science problems. In today’s world, these leadership qualities are relevant and help them to relate with real life situations.
